Even the color of plate can affect your diet Alerter l'administrateur Recommander à un ami Lien de l'article

Various studies have proved that the size of plates and spoons can affect the success of the diet program. Now scientists are discovering a new fact, namely the portion of a person's eating is also influenced by the color of plates and tablecloths.

The study, published in the Journal of Color Research, involved 200 participants aged 18-39 years. Participants underwent two experiments at once, each to see the effect of the different colors of plates and tablecloths and the size of the plates on the portion of the meal.

The first experiment only confirms the results of other studies that have been done before, namely that the size of the plate affects the portion of the meal. The results are not much different, participants who use larger plates tend to eat in more portions.

Interesting facts are revealed in the second experiment, which involves a combination of colors between plates with tablecloths. Participants who eat with plates and tablecloths with the most contrast of color, tend to eat more than the color of plates and table cloths the same.

The researchers call it an optical illusion effect, or a visual ruse. With high color contrast between plates with tablecloths, the food in the dish tends to look less so that participants will be encouraged to increase the portion of the meal.

Vice versa, the lower the contrast of color between the plate with the tablecloth then the impression that appears is the contents of the plate look fuller so that more quickly feel full. As a result for those who are dieting, low color contrast will greatly support its success.

The idea of doing this research was inspired by the idea of a philosopher of the nineteenth century, Franz Delboeuf. Quoted from MSNBC on Wednesday (30/11/2011), Delboeuf proves that circles of the same size can look different if each is placed in another larger circle but different in size.

Push the High cholesterol out of the body Alerter l'administrateur Recommander à un ami Lien de l'article

High cholesterol is one of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease that is the number one cause of death in the United States. Since there is no such thing as a 'magic bullet' that can make cholesterol disappear, the combination of certain foods with prescribed medicines can help lower cholesterol and protect your heart.

Dietician Patricia Bannan, author of Eat Right When Time is Tight recommends some cholesterol-lowering foods, some of which may surprise you.

According to Bannan, one of the best foods to manage cholesterol is strawberries. Strawberries contain many heart-healthy substances, including phytochemicals, vitamin C, folic acid, potassium, fiber and phytosterols that can actually inhibit cholesterol absorption.

This is in line with the findings of researchers from the University of Oklahoma on the link of dietary supplements in the form of frozen strawberry powder and then dried with 11 percent decrease in bad cholesterol (LDL) in participants who are obese for two months.

Lean beef is another excellent food for cholesterol. While eating too much red meat can sacrifice your body, a study found that eating 4.5-5 ounces of lean beef a day can reduce bad cholesterol or LDL.

These include popular cuts of meat such as sirloin steak, tenderloin, T-bone and 95 percent lean beef.

Serving 3 ounces of lean beef itself contains 150 calories and 10 essential nutrients such as protein, zinc and iron.

As reported by Fox News, Wednesday (11/04/2012).

Other Branan-recommended cholesterol-lowering foods include green tea, flaxseed and dark chocolate. But it is also important for us to make lifestyle changes such as more exercise, reducing stress and getting enough sleep, "he said.

In a study report published in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine, researchers found that the group asked to reduce sitting habits and multiply eating fruits and vegetables had the greatest health benefits.

Groups that are asked to 'exercise a lot and reduce fatty foods' tend to exercise more over time and lower daily caloric intake from fat from 11.4 to 9.1 percent. However, this group only slightly reduced its time to sit and not so much to eat fruits and vegetables.

On the other hand, the group that was asked to 'sit down and eat lots of fruits and vegetables' then became a lot of exercise as well as people who were asked to do a lot of exercise. Participants of this group also subsequently reduced the consumption of fatty foods despite not being asked to lower fat intake

The researchers conclude, reducing the habit of sitting and eating more fruits and vegetables will eventually limit the intake of fatty foods and trigger people to exercise a lot.

Most people are hard to resist sweet drinks Alerter l'administrateur Recommander à un ami Lien de l'article

In a nutritional class, a dietitian named Andrea Giancoli asked some participants to bring in cans and bottles of drink that participants drank every day, from soda, fruit juice to sweet tea.

Then the expert who is domiciled in New York is asking participants to read the label behind a can or bottle containing information about the size, number of calories and sugar and Giancoli using a pile of rock sugar to give an idea of how much sugar consumed participants.

"They do not know what's good and bad for their health, they do read the outside packaging but not on the label," said another dietician Angela Ginn who is also a member of The Academy of Nutrition with Giancoli.

Although soft drink sales have declined over the past few years, sales of sports drinks, juices and other non-carbonated beverages have increased.

Whereas in 2011 alone, Americans recorded an average drink of 2400 mL carbonated soft drinks or according to Beverage Digest's beverage industry bulletin about 9 billion cases while sales of other non-carbonated beverages, including bottled water reached 15 billion cases.

Giancoli also revealed that some participants who saw the image of the fruit on the label assumes that the sweetened beverage is good for his health. There are even other participants who find it difficult to say how many servings they eat, but experts say almost everyone consumes about three servings of 6000 mL calorie size bottles.

Therefore Giancoli creates a trick to help participants understand their sugar and calorie intake by showing the actual amount of sugar in a number of drinks that participants often consume. Giancoli also suggested that drinking 6000 mL of soda bottles daily can add 12 kg of body weight annually.

The problem is the human brain does not see the calories from the drinks as in the food. No wonder many people find it difficult to understand the impact of larger bottle sizes or cans, experts say.

Researcher Pierre Chandon, who recently studied 21 studies, found that although the cup or packaging is double in size but consumers can not say if they get twice the portion.

"This shows that our brains are very bad in geometry," said Chandon who is also a professor at INSEAD business school in Paris as quoted by huffingtonpost, Friday (07/06/2012)

According to him, manufacturers must include a picture on the front that shows the number of portions of the drink. Precisely by adding the word 'medium' or 'big' on the label is meaningless to the consumer.
